Many automatic litter boxes on the market were complicated to clean. Even with automatic scooping, parts of the box still got stained, and cleaning them required a lot of effort. Additionally, they were bulky, expensive, and not easy to maintain.

I wanted to design something simpler, more affordable, and easier to clean. Something that wouldn't just look good but also make a real difference in the daily lives of cat parents.

In January, I began doing the market reaserch, and sketching out the first ideas for what would become WhimzyPet. I knew that the solution had to be simple, functional, and most importantly, “modular”.

Once I had the initial design in mind, I worked with an engineering team to bring it to life. We transitioned from rough sketches to detailed “CAD drawings”, refining the design with every iteration. I wanted a box that was lightweight, easy to maintain, and comfortable for cats. As I reviewed the CAD models, I realized that the challenge of modularity was ensuring the parts could easily come apart for cleaning but still fit together perfectly like pieces of a puzzle. My team and I were excited, working hard to adjust the CAD designs and optimize the fit to make everything work smoothly.
